Return to School Reopening Plan

Covington Parents and Families,

The link that is provided below will take you to the Covington Exempted Village School District reopening/contingency plan. In this document, there are multiple plans for multiple scenarios. Right now, the District is planning to come back to school using Plan A.

Under Plan A, all students will return to school on August 25th and attend school five days a week, as originally planned. Many precautions will be taken to make sure that the school buildings are as safe and clean as possible. Under this plan, staff members will be required to wear face coverings at all times, and the students will be required to wear face coverings while riding school transportation. It is recommended that the students wear face coverings while in the buildings and classrooms, but they are not required to do so.

Good hygiene will be stressed with our students and the building will be cleaned throughout the school day. Desks and other highly touched surfaces will be sanitized before each class change and student rotation. We are currently developing protocols to make sure that our breakfast and lunch services follow the safety requirements issued by the Ohio Department of Health.

We realize that some parents may not be ready to send their children back to in-person classes at this time. For those parents and students, we will have an entirely on-line program available through the Miami County Educational Service Center. The students who utilize this option will still be Covington students and will be able to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at Covington.  Parents who choose this option will need to communicate that choice to Mr. Long or Mr. Meyer by August 11th.

While we are currently committed to utilizing Plan A to start the 2020-2021 school year, Plan B and Plan C have been developed in case the pandemic worsens and we are required to use a blended learning model, or a distance learning model, during all or part of the upcoming school year.

I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we have developed this reopening plan. The administration, teachers, and staff members will continue to work on the specifics of this plan over the next few weeks. We will continue to keep you informed, and we look forward to seeing our students back in the classrooms on August 25th!
