Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a strategic plan?

This planning process takes input from all people having a stake in the district to build a plan that will influence: the district’s standard for student achievement, purchasing and budgets, adding or detracting programs/personnel, promoting student achievement, etc.  As teams, we will identify core values, evaluate the current district mission statement, identify strengths and weaknesses of the district, plan goals, and establish action plans to move the district toward reaching established objectives.

  1. What is the need for having a strategic plan? Why involve the community?

There are many reasons to do long-range planning, but most importantly, we need to give our students the best opportunity to succeed in a global, information-driven market. The Board in cooperation with the current administration, believes this will be best accomplished through a partnership with the community. Working together, we can accomplish more.

  1. I do not have any children involved in the school, can I be part of the process?

Yes, we want to hear from all of our community members, including those who have children or grandchildren in school, as well as those who do not.

  1. What is the time commitment to be part of the team?

Most committees will finish the work in 2 – 3 evening meetings October – January.  There will be a Core Team meeting held on a Saturday in late January to finalize the plan.

  1. What if I cannot make it to all of the meetings?

Everyone is very busy, and it would be unrealistic to believe team members will be able to attend all scheduled meetings. We are asking for a commitment to have constructive input into the process, and to be at as many meetings as possible.

  1. I do not know anything about how the school operates, especially in the areas these topics cover. Can I still get involved?

Absolutely, everyone has something to offer to the students of the Covington Exempted Village School District. This would also be an opportunity for you to gain a greater understanding of how schools operate within the structure of the local, state, and federal governments.

  1. Can I choose the team I would like to participate on?

Yes, but if you do not have a preference the superintendent will be happy to assign you to where you may be needed, or your interests and skills best used.

  1. Where do I sign up?

If you are interested in helping us plan the future, please contact the superintendent, Joe Hoelzle, in person, by phone 937-473-2249 (ext 5103), or by email at hoelzlej@covingtonk12.org.  You can also fill out registration form by complete the online contact form.
